Blocking &

Tipping

Not every set will be perfect, and sometimes the pass will get really close to the net. Sometimes you can either hit it or shoot set it over, but it gets difficult. That’s when tipping comes into play!

There are two types of tips: open and closed hand. Open hand tips are a bit more advanced, but they are when you flick the ball with your fingers to a different direction. Closed hand tips are when you make a fist and punch the ball over the net.

There’s also a way to defend against attacks or tips from the other time: blocks! Blocking is when you jump up and use your hands above your head to stop the ball. To get maximum height, use the footwork method we pulled from spiking. When you block, keep your legs straight and kick them slightly forward. The goal is to make an angle out of your body. Also, make sure you don’t hit the net or accidentally kick the player on the other side of the net. To be more effective, try to roof the ball as much as possible, or keep your hands on top of the ball.

All that’s left is understanding positions! You’ll be a pro in no time!
